3 Popular Supplements That Are a Waste of Money
This
might make me
a few enemies, but I believe
that 99%
of supplements
and superfoods
on the market are an absolute waste
of money.
It seems like every time you turn your head, someone is offering
the latest
and greatest beauty
enhancing or breakthrough superfood
or supplement.
But what if I told you something shocking yet
so simple to understand:
there's no
food that arrives
in a bottle, having
been made
in a factory
and sold in powdered form, that will ever compare in terms
of super-nutrition
to fresh fruits and vegetables.
But still, almost every day I
get an e-mail that says, what
do you think
of __________ (fill in
the blank with whatever supplement or superfood is
now being promoted as
the latest amazing product).
Although it
would take forever
to review every
product on
the market, let's review
some popular supplements and
superfoods that, in my opinion, are an absolute waste
of money.
Green
Powder Almost every supplement company
has a variation of the green powder, which is basically a powder made with
dried grass, dried grass
juices or dried vegetables and possibly algae.
This powder is supposed
to make your body more alkaline and give you nutrition you
can't find elsewhere.
First, I would say that grass powder is not a worthy
food and anyone growing grass and turning it into a powder and making a lot of money selling it is really laughing their
way to the bank at the expense of unknowing customers. Even if it's
called wheatgrass, it's still grass.
A powder of vegetables or algae
can never compare in nutritional value to fresh
vegetables, even if those vegetables are not organic.
The
real superfoods are dark green vegetables such as spinach, romaine lettuce, black kale, parsley, celery, arugula, and so on.
With the use of green smoothies made with *fresh* green vegetables and fruit, anyone can obtain superior nutrition in a few minutes a day
(ruling out the argument that people don't have time to eat well).
Green smoothies and fresh raw greens
literally put these green powders to shame. For a free mini-course on the power of green smoothies, go to:
Protein Powder
Another all-time
favorite of supplement companies is the protein powder, in
all its forms. There's the ultra-refined soy protein powder, we've got whey
protein, rice protein, and now a less refined hemp protein.
But the
idea is the same: that somehow, no matter
how much food you eat, there's still a chance you might not get
enough protein, so therefore you should consume protein in a
concentrated, powdered form.
This idea is
especially popular among body-builders and gym-goers. It's interesting to note that starting
from the Greek gymnasiums two and a half thousand
years ago through the ages of gladiators and modern gymnastics, men and women of all ages have been
able to build magnificent, muscular bodies eating nothing more
than simple foods and without the use of protein powders.
This is a classic example of how you can market a product by first creating a problem that doesn't exist.
Nutrition textbooks teach that you can get all the protein you
need as
long as you consume enough calories from whole foods, even if all you eat is fruits and vegetables.
Noni Juice
Although
this discussion
could lead me to cover any possible supplement or superfood among the thousands of products available, I think you're starting to get my point.
I'll just
finish with an example of a superfood called
noni and sold as noni juice.
The noni is a fruit that's been used for centuries in Polynesia for its alleged
medicinal properties. But there is very limited scientific evidence to support these properties.
When I visited
Tahiti last winter, I was on the tiny
island of Huahine and had the chance to
try real noni juice from a local Tahitian couple who made the juice from their own fruit
tree. Let me tell you that it was the most disgusting,
horrible concoction that I ever had in my entire life!
Obviously, the noni is not a natural food for humans, as there is no way anyone would want to consume it unless
they thought it had
some medicinal value.
My Tahitian friends explained how they prepare the noni juice. They put all these
unappetizing, weird-smelling noni fruits in a jar and then let the thing ferment for several days.
Then the fermented juice that oozes out of the fruits and reeks like the juice that's formed at the bottom of a trash container is what they drink.
Now
American companies have had the great idea of adding a bunch of sugar to this awful tasting Tahitian
folk remedy juice, making
up a fantastic story around it, throwing in some questionable science and selling millions of dollars worth of the stuff to suckers.
Listen closely: it's completely
absurd to think that one food can be a universal remedy for all our ills. We need nutrients from different sources and Nature isn't so capricious as to put everything in one place.
We're
meant to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, drink pure water and have a
healthy lifestyle with lots of exercise and healthy relationships and positive thoughts.
All the rest is
marketing and hype.
Of course, you are free to believe what you want about noni juice and
other kinds of superfoods available on the market.
But do
yourself a
favor and make the
decision to try for yourself what the study and
experience of natural hygiene and health through a pure raw-based diet can do for you.

Why are Women Sports Important?
Historically,
women are often
depicted as damsels
in distress. They
are in need
of a knight
in shinning armour
to captivate them,
to save them
from dreadful boredom
and to take
care of them. Today,
a little
of that
is still in us. However, we
can empower ourselves to break
the stereotype. One way
is through competitive
and non-competitive sports.
Sports can
be classified in
two ways, team sports and individual sports.
Team sports such as, basketball,
volleyball and soccer are in need
of people to play.
These are the typical numbers;
five on a basketball team, two or
six on
a volleyball
team and a soccer team needs eleven players. Team sports instills many positive character
traits in individuals. These traits can be
good sportsmanship, getting along
with others,
dependency on others to do their part or
play their position, trust
building and group dynamics
just to name a few.
Individual sports is just you. You
have to be the one to
go the
distance. A few
good individual sports are;
jogging, bicycling, swimming, golf,
dance and weight training. They instill self-motivation, self-sacrifice, self-determination to
stay active and to
continue. Being active in any
sport is
good. The benefits are
many. Ill list a few:
better oxygen
volume, toned
muscles, maintenance or a
better ideal weight, induce sleep, release
of feel good hormones, prevention
of disease, better
focus and vision. So
what ever you decide
make play
apart of
your day.

Show Me The Money!
The title
of this
article is not just
the newest TV show staring William Shatner, or
a great line from
a Tom
Cruise movie. These
four words
should be the motto of small
business owners everywhere. Without money,
your business has very little chance of succeeding.
This statement can
be taken several ways.
First
and foremost,
is finding financing for
your business idea. Each business
owner has
to decide
where to find
financing. The
obvious choices
include banks, finance companies, money brokers, etc. Another place to
look for funding
is friends
and family members. But,
that is not what this article
is really about.
Second, is to price the
items in
your business so
that it insures that
your business endeavor is
a success. You want your prices to
be in line
with your competition. Price is
usually a consideration with most people. However,
you do not have to have lower prices
on every item; you must, however,
be in the same ballpark with the competition. There
are other items that customers
consider when
purchasing an item from you, but price is the
main one. And finally, the
reason for this article is startup costs.
What are start-up costs? Start-up costs,
as the name implies, include all the expenses that you have during the process of opening your
business. Simple enough. But
many times, entrepreneurs underestimate the amount that it will take to
open the doors. Each business start-up
costs varies depending
on the type of business that you plan to open.
Many of the costs associated with opening a business are obvious, however, I will list many of them so that when you are planning your budget, it may refresh your memory.
Location for your business. Of
course, this is the most obvious. Initial maintenance problems or
remodeling should considered a start-up cost.
Advertising is often
overlooked or underestimated. You should check with various media
about prices to advertise.
This can be a major
expense. Having a sign made for your building is also necessary for your business.
Insurance is a necessary evil. Do not open the doors without it.
Office equipment
such as computer, printer, scanner, copier, fax, adding machine, calculators,
filing cabinet, desk,
and a bookcase are all necessary in an office.
Office supplies are also
overlooked; these include paper, pens, computer disks,
notebooks, file folders, tape, stapler,
and so on.
Business licenses are required
and should not be forgotten
although the cost is usually minimal.
Utilities such as electricity, water, and phone; also an internet
connection and mobile phone should be considered.
There may be other costs that can be associated with start-up that are not listed here. This is only
designed to
get you to think about what it really costs to open a business. Many start-up costs are one time costs such as a
deposit on a utility connection or
having a sign designed and
placed on the building or marquee. However, many are recurring such as insurance premiums and monthly utility expenses.
One business owner that I
know said about start-up costs you should
add up everything that you think it will cost to get open and then at least double it, and you will be close to what it costs. The lesson here is do not underestimate your initial expenses. It costs
more than you think.

Tiger Woods Can't Match the Mental Toughness of a 14 year Old Girl
What
is mental toughness? Is
it being able
to grind out
a good score
when things aren't
going so well
on the course?
Or is it
the mental ability
to stay strong
and committed in spite
of distractions
and on-course circumstances?
Of course it is
both of these things
and more. Yet mental toughness isn't something you simply acquire in
the spur of the moment or when you "think you need it." No,
it's more
of an
overall mindset. A perspective on
the game
that allows you
to tap another level within
your mental game.
Mental toughness is developed
and built over time. Once you have
a degree of mental toughness, access
to it when it matters becomes
easier and easier. Like
any new skill it habituates over time. An increased inner resolve that generates consistent,
confident swings.
Do you have the mental toughness of
a 14-year-old-girl? I don't
think even Tiger does.
Seriously. Is your golfing
mindset solid and committed in the
many scenarios that unfold in your
game? Do you have as strong a mind as young MacKinzie Kline, the 14-year-old golfing phenom? She is incredibly
mentally tough.
She was born with only
three valves in
her heart and
her kidney was on the wrong side of
her body. Having gone through several operations in her life,
she built a toughness. She went on to qualify for the Women's Amateur at the age of 14. She's
already had three aces and
one of them was
caught on film!
Yet as she continued to
play she began to feel extremely short of
breath. She was
forced to take an
oxygen tank with her as she played and use it between holes. Nothing
would stop her from competing. Imagine lugging an oxygen tank around the course with you and remaining focused on each shot!
Concerned, the doctors investigated
what might be causing her shortness of breath and discovered she had a hole in her heart which they had missed
some time before
that. So she underwent another operation.
She has a mental toughness that
keeps her in her game and
completely centered in each moment. Regardless of the
circumstances. She has decided to play with a
mindset that says, "I determine
how I feel and
how I'll perform, not the other player or what might be happening around me." MacKinzie Kline's mindset is the
epitome of what mental toughness is.
It's almost routine to watch some frustrated
whiner on the course toss
his club 20 yards down the fairway after a bad
shot. Or complain about
all the bad breaks they get, why the bunker wasn't raked properly, how the cup wasn't cut right, and on and on. Player after player, when
faced with some
adversity, fold like a cheap suit and succumb to the inertia of their
own inner weakness.
And then there's this 14-year-old girl with only three valves in her heart with more
character and heart than any of us could
hope to have.
Mental toughness is a state of mind that keeps your attention on each task. Each shot. Each moment. MacKinzie Kline is committed to her mental game. She is committed to herself.
She accepts
complete responsibility for her results and places no blame outside of herself for her circumstances.
Amazing. Most everyone would agree she has a right to feel self pity. That
doesn't happen with her for even a moment. Her diminutive stature disguises a towering mental game giant.
She chooses how she'll experience herself on the golf course. Knowing mental toughness is a decision. A commitment to an inner ideal that is bigger then the outcome of any one shot, or game. She chose to accept ownership of her
internal state and how she'll perform.
Tiger is unquestionably the dominant force in the game and is so mainly because of
his mental toughness. Yet I would place young MacKinzie Kline along side him any day if forced to choose the mental game giants in golf.
It
sure makes our
own weakness on the course seem pathetic, doesn't it?

Football Crazy Wall Clock
Do
you know someone who
is football crazy? Is your Dad
a footy
nut? Is your
brother a soccer Fanatic?
This is possibly
the bestest Crimbo
pressie you
can make them. You can
make it fit any football team
of your
choosing, or add
an assortment
of football
teams. You could
also adapt this idea
to make a net-ball,
basketball, or rugby clock.
To make a Football
Crazy Wall Clock you
will need...
Paint, thick
card or
an old
grocery box, a
clock mechanism and clock hands (you
will find these
at craft shops)
and a print
out of pattern of football shirts
which is available at
the link below.
Colour
the football shirts
in the teams
strip you choose. You can colour
them randomly
if you
wish. Number each shirt 1 to 12.
To make
the clock face, draw
around a
large dinner plate or a tea
tray onto some card. An old grocery box is great. Cut out
two identical
circles, and
glue them
together so that
the lines in
the cards
structure cross, this will give
the clock face extra strength.
Once
the glue is dry,
paint the
clock face green. Again leave to dry.
With white paint,
paint on a
centre line through the
middle of the clock face, and paint a
kick off circle in the middle of the clock.
Push a
pencil through the centre of the clock face ready to attach the clock
mechanism. Be very
careful and use the old
Plasticine trick - Put a
ball of
Plasticine on the table, put your card on top of
it where you need the hole to
be, and push the pencil through the card and
into the
Plasticine. Arrange the football shirts on the clock face and
stick them
down. Push the clock spindle through the hole and push on the hands. The mechanism has a hole for hanging the clock on the wall.
Put a
battery in the clock and set the time.
